Vote NO on May 19

The Peace and Freedom Party calls for a NO vote on every proposition in the May 19 special election. Vote NO on Propositions 1A, 1B, 1C, 1D, 1E and 1F.

"JUST SAY NO !" TO THE ROTTEN BUDGET DEAL
The propositions on the May 19 ballot are part of the budget deal forged by the Governor and the State Legislature. They want to cut our necessary services and raise the taxes that hit the poorest people the hardest. They will not boost tax rates on the wealthy. In fact, they gave over $2.5 billion in tax breaks to corporations.

NO on Proposition 1A
Prop 1A (the "Budget Stabilization Act") claims to create a "rainy day fund" by limiting spending in good years to saved up for the bad. In reality, it will force continual cuts in vital services and make it impossible to create necessary programs like a good health care system for everyone.

Prop 1A will also make the regressive tax increases in the budget deal last an extra two years.

NO on 1B
The state owes over $9 billion to the schools. Prop 1B promises to pay the money back but only if we pass 1A. If we defeat 1A and 1B, they'll still owe the money and they'll still have to pay it.

NO on 1C
This lets us borrow money on lottery tickets which have not yet been sold. We can allow slick advertisers to entice more poor people to buy lottery tickets. We can pay more tax-free interest to the rich lenders. Or we can sink this, and just tax the rich.

NO on 1D and 1E
The voters decided that they wanted to have special taxes to fund programs for children's services and mental health. These propositions divert that money to other programs and the General Fund.

NO on 1F
Denying pay increases to the legislature will not cause them to tax the rich or agree on a budget which provides for our needs. It won't end the two-thirds requirement to pass the budget or raise new money.

We need a People's Budget to meet human needs, not this mess. Vote No on the whole pack of propositions and build a political party that represents working class people.
